Accra, Ghana – July 31, 2026
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) Ex-Staff Association is set to launch its inaugural project, a Tourism Road Safety Campaign, on August 4, 2026. This initiative, a flagship effort of the association formed during the GTA’s 50th-anniversary celebrations in 2023, aims to enhance road safety for tourists and Ghanaians alike, reinforcing Ghana’s position as a premier tourism destination.

Under the leadership of President Madam Adeline Boateng, the association, comprising 73 former GTA staff aged 60 to 83, is collaborating with the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ghana Road Safety Authority, Chartered Institute for Logistics and Transport, and other private partners to address road travel concerns. The campaign will focus on improving road quality, driver education, and travel safety protocols to reduce accidents and boost tourist confidence. “Safe roads are critical to sustainable tourism. Our goal is to ensure every journey in Ghana is secure and enjoyable,” Boateng stated.
The GTA, led by CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto, has pledged logistical and financial support for the campaign, recognizing the ex-staff’s expertise as vital to its success. “This initiative aligns with our vision to elevate tourism standards and safety,” she noted, referencing the campaign’s synergy with the GTA’s “2025 Heritage Month and”Experience Ghana” campaign and the government’s “Black Star Experience” initiatives.
The launch event, scheduled for August 4, 2026, at the historic Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. Aside the launch, the Association looks forward to outdoor their newsletter that will further help educate the public on tourism. The campaign will also partner with the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to implement driver training and vehicle maintenance programs, building on similar efforts like the NRSA’s 2024 “Drive Safe, Arrive Alive”.
