Ghan Tourism Ex-Staff Association (GHATEX) Holds Inaugural Annual General Meeting, Charting Path Ghana’s Tourism Veterans

The Ghana Tourism Authority Ex-Staff Association (GHATEX) marked a significant milestone on November 27, 2025, with its first Annual General Meeting held at the Jake Obetsebi Hall within the Ghana Tourism Authority in Accra. This gathering brought together former staff, dignitaries, and supporters to reflect on the association’s journey, celebrate achievements, and chart a path forward for mentoring and collaboration in Ghana’s vibrant tourism sector.

In her address, GHATEX President Madam Adeline Boateng provided an inspiring update on the association’s origins. She recounted the key engagements that led to its formation and official inauguration in July 2023. Looking ahead, Madam Boateng outlined exciting initiatives, including an upcoming tourism safety campaign aimed at promoting best practices and awareness. She also emphasized GHATEX’s commitment to mentoring current Ghana Tourism Authority staff, fostering knowledge transfer from seasoned veterans to the next generation.

The event was graced by notable figures, including H.E. Ambassador Adjei Barwuah, the former Ambassador to USA, former first Executive Director of the then Ghana Tourist Board, and Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, the immediate past CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority. Madam Boateng expressed deep gratitude for their attendance and highlighted Mr. Agyeman’s pivotal support in establishing the association.

Ambassador Adjei Barwuah shared heartfelt thanks for the invitation, noting it was his first to a tourism-related event since leaving the organisation. He encouraged member to keep the enduring bond within the membership and urged the group to continue supporting one another, reinforcing the spirit of unity.

Financial transparency was a highlight, with Mr. Philip Mensah presenting the association’s financial report. He detailed ongoing support for members and former staff, showcasing GHATEX’s dedication to welfare and community.

A pivotal moment came with the adoption of the association’s constitution. Ms. Stella Osei, Legal Officer at the Ghana Tourism Authority, guided members through the final draft, leading to its unanimous approval—a foundational step for GHATEX’s future governance.

The meeting also saw visits from current Deputy Chief Executives Messrs Ben Anane Nsiah and Ekow Sampson, who extended their solidarity.

Attendees praised the Associations leadership for steering the association to this point, expressing optimism for its growth.

Beyond the formalities, the event was a joyful reunion. Members fraternized, sharing stories and reminiscing about “the good old times” in Ghana’s tourism landscape. This blend of reflection and forward-thinking made the AGM not just a meeting, but a celebration of legacy and potential.
