Brief About the Ghana Tourism Authority Ex-Staff Association
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) Ex-Staff Association is a registered body comprising former employees and retirees of the GTA, aimed at fostering collaboration, promoting member welfare, and leveraging their expertise to advance Ghana’s tourism industry. The Association serves as a platform to maintain links with the GTA, mentor current staff, and address critical issues such as road travel safety for tourists.
- Origin of the Idea: The concept for the Ex-Staff Association was conceived in 2018 by a group of former GTA staff who recognized the need to unite for mutual support and to contribute to the growth of the tourism sector.
- First Ad-Hoc Meetings: While specific dates for the initial ad-hoc meetings are not detailed in available records, these gatherings began shortly after the idea was mooted in 2018. They focused on planning the Association’s structure and objectives, culminating in its formal establishment.
- Registration and Inauguration: The Association was officially registered under the Companies Act 2019, Act 992. It was inaugurated in Accra in 2023 as part of the GTA’s 25th anniversary celebrations. The event marked the formal launch of the Association, with Adeline Boateng, a former Manager of Quality Assurance and Head of Human Resources at GTA, appointed as its President.
The Association, with a current membership of 73 individuals aged between 60 and 83, is committed to initiatives like improving road safety for travelers and supporting the GTA’s mission to promote sustainable tourism. The GTA has pledged logistical and financial support for these efforts, particularly the road safety campaign.
